History and preservation come to life in Sea Pines
The community of Sea Pines, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, is a nature lover’s paradise due to preservation efforts begun decades ago. It started with Charles Fraser, who founded the Sea Pines Company in 1956. Fraser’s goal was to develop the land for habitation without upsetting the delicate balance between nature and mankind.
Working under the restrictions of land-use covenants, landscape architect Hideo Sasaki created a master plan for the Sea Pines community that revolved around homes blending into the natural landscape. Oceanside cul-de-sacs with easements of 20 to 30 feet allowed room for ocean access, bucking the first-row/second-row building trend.
Sasaki’s plan included the 605-acre Sea Pines Forest Preserve, accounting for about a fourth of the land area. The Harbour Town Yacht Basin was designed around a beautiful live oak, called the Liberty Oak, where Fraser was ultimately buried.
Today, you’ll find Sea Pines homes for sale in a gated community of 5,200 acres that includes nearly 4,000 homes and over 2,000 villas. With four golf courses, five miles of beaches, and endless opportunities to connect with nature, now is a great time to consider attractive Sea Pines properties.
Nature Galore: The Hilton Head Sea Pines community offers access to pristine beaches, thriving sea marshes, and maritime forests full of live oaks, palmettos, and pines. The area is home to over 30 species of mammals, more than 130 species of birds, and a diverse array of fish, amphibians, and reptiles. The Sea Pines Forest Preserve is the largest tract of undeveloped land on Hilton Head Island.
Activities for Every Interest: When seeking homes for sale in Sea Pines, Hilton Head, you’ll find facilities for golf, racquet sports, swimming, equestrian pursuits, water activities, and much more. The community also features dining and shopping on-site.
History and Heart in Harbour Town: Recognized as the centerpiece of the community, Harbour Town is a major draw for house hunters considering Sea Pines real estate. The Harbour Town Lighthouse, a popular wedding venue, stands 90 feet tall. Along with breathtaking views, it also houses a museum highlighting everything from Gullah history to the community’s PGA heritage.
